Ballymagarvey Village

Gardens & Grounds

Wherever you choose to sit, wherever you choose to wander, Ballymagarvey reveals views to delight, to ease and to intrigue.
To the south, the treasures of the walled garden, to the north, the story of the 17th-Century cemetery, to the east, the sun rising over rolling paddocks and then at the close of day, the mill pond, the wishing well and the waterfall catching its fiery finish.

The courtyardCourtyard

Once, the courtyard drummed with the sounds of farmers from the surrounding countryside bringing cartloads of flax and grain for milling in the village mill, the mill wheel turning and the mill workers calling out to each other. Today, it is a haven; a place of peace and beauty. All you hear is the water, (pumped from the 18th-century underground caverns), as it makes its way over the terraced courtyard to the village trough.

The Mill PondMill pond

Come, sit by the pond and watch the brown trout and the rainbow trout as they go about their busy lives. There’s a Wishing Well and a little rustic bridge too; a picture of tranquility.
